Child Prodigy Check-up AND California Adventures: Maximus' Post-Disneyland "Party"

And now, folks: back to our California trip report.

After our crazy fun and exhausting day at Disneyland, we trekked back to The Estate, a.k.a home of Jacob and Laura Roebuck, Pam, Jim and Aida. The Estate knows how to do at least two things really well: 1) host a great party, and 2) make road- or plane-weary travelers feel right at home. We were so glad to get to park our little family at The Estate for several days during Joe and Tammy's wedding festivities!

Speaking of Joe and Tammy.... the happy soon-to-be-wed couple met us at the Estate after our day at Disney and brought a great little birthday cake for Max to help him celebrate turning 3! They even found a cake in Boise Broncos colors: Blue and Orange. Max gave his stamp of approval to the cake, and Lucas and I gave our stamp of approval to the fun time we had to visit with Joe and Tammy before all the busy wedding events started. Let's just say we are big fans of Joe and Tammy!

And, since we're on the topic of Maximus' turning 3, I'll give you a quick run-down on the 3-year-old check-up that Max had today with his pediatrician. He weighs 30 lbs. and is a little over 35 inches tall, which was something like 35% weight and 15% height compared to other kids his age.

I had a little I'm-a-bad-mommy panick attack moment when the doctor pulled out a piece of paper, drew a circle and asked Max what it was. My internal panick sounded a little something like this:

Oh, no. I didn't know there was going to be a written exam. We haven't talked about shapes in months. I SWEAR he knew them all when he was 18 months old! Now my son is going to be tagged as 'developmentally delayed' and it's all my fault...

Just then, he replied to the doctor "zero." The doctor laughed, said "I'll take it" and proceeded on the rest of the tests. Whew. That was a close call. Maximus' position as a child prodigy was nearly compromised, but I think we were able to maintain some facade of genius.

That's hilarious about the zero. Way to go, Max!

Just wait until you take him to his first eye exam and rather than naming the objects he has his own story to tell about the objects. (I think there was a jeep and Jackson talked about Pop's camp).

Don't worry--he'll always be a prodigy in our book! But good to know about the written exam, I'll start studying with Jakin and Anna! :)
